Blackburn Manufacturing, Inc.

Blackburn Manufacturing Company was started in 1953 in the basement of a small family homestead near Royal Nebraska. Our founder, E. A. Bud Blackburn was the brains behind the facility when he invented not only the marking flag but also the machine to produce them. With his two sons, then 7 and 11, the three of them ran the one machine around the clock to fill the first million flag order.

Bud’s youngest son, Jim Blackburn became President/CEO of the company in 1980 upon Bud’s retirement. Blackburn headquarters, now located in Neligh Nebraska for over 46 years, continues to be family owned and operated.

In 1988, a subsidiary plant was started in Cambria California to better service shipping to customers west of the Rocky Mountains. Now located in Paso Robles, they have continued to grow since 1988. Bud’s oldest son, Bob Blackburn serves as Executive Vice President of this facility. Bud passed away in 1998 but the family tradition still remains. Bob’s son, Robert Blackburn II serves as Vice President of this facility, and his daughter Paige assists with customer service and administrative issues.

Jennifer Blackburn, Jim’s oldest daughter, joined him in Neligh in 1994. With Jim’s decision to retire in 2005, Jennifer is now the third generation President/CEO, instilled with his same core business principles.
